Xbox 360 3 red light error, also called as (red rings of death error),
is one of the major problems faced by many Xbox 360 owners today. It
is usually caused when there is a hardware failure inside the Xbox 360
console. This is often caused by overheating.
Xbox 360 3 red light error is caused by anything that fails in the
"digital backbone" on the mother board, such as the CPU, GPU, memory,
etc. For example, bad manufacturing (like solder joints), misapplied
heat sinks or thermal interface material are causes for failure.
One of the main design flaws is the excessive heat on the GPU warping
the mother board around it. This stresses the solder joints on the
GPU. And any bad joints will cause a break in the circuit board
causing the Xbox 360 3 red light error. The cooler you can keep it,
the longer it will probably last. So you should keep it free of
debris, and keep it in free air.
On July, 2007 Microsoft extended the warranty of all Xbox 360 consoles
suffering from the Xbox 360 3 red light error. With the rising numbers
of Xbox 360 councils arriving daily, Microsoft repair centers are now
shipping faulty consoles to foreign repair centers in order to
dampened the load the overwhelming thousands of Xbox 360 consoles
arriving at its doors on a daily
To have your Xbox 360 repaired you will have to call Microsoft and set
up a repair order. You will then have to wait for Microsoft to send
you shipping box. Once it is shipped off it would take anywhere from
30 to 90 days to get your console back. Microsoft also tissue that
there is no guarantee that they can fix your console, so there's a
chance you can get it back unrepaired. They will also suggest that you
buy a new console. What a slap in the face!
